Someone might have scored themselves an Aston V12

It's hard to say what the condition of the engine is, since the front end is all mashed up. What do you guys think? Was it NP or CP?

A smashed Aston Martin, which was written off in a drunken Auckland crash last year, has gone under the hammer for almost $13,000.

The deregistered 2010 Rapide sparked the attention of car enthusiasts when it was put up for online auction last month.

Now one lucky driver has secured a taste of the James Bond action on the cheap, after offering the winning bid of $12,783 for a supercar that had previously been worth $200,000.

The movie spy famously drives the British race car brand in the 007 films.

All profits from the sale, organised by Turners Auctions, will go towards Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD).

The badly damaged Aston Martin gained more than 85,000 page views on auction site TradeMe, with a reserve price of just $1.

The V12, 550 brake horsepower sedan slammed into a light pole last October when tourist Weihao Chen lost control on Auckland's Tamaki Drive.

Last month Chen, 26, was disqualified from driving for nine months, fined $750 and ordered to pay $130 court costs, after admitting a charge of dangerous driving.

It's hard to tell...if the engine is revivable, would the final auction price be what it is? Considering you'd only be left with the rear end.

There's a few photos with glimpses of the engine, I don't see too much damage - but then again, I'm not an expert with this stuff

You would be left with the rear end and some of the interior. I'm not sure if you can part it out because most people would go to the dealer and want new parts if they have Aston Martin money.

that's why I thought that the 13k might be for the engine. Unless the buyer wants to hold the other parts until AM runs out (in 50 years?)

If the engine can be saved it might be worth $13k. Otherwise, it's just scrap metal. Or a coffee table.

Or a nice mini bar. That would be pretty classy

Intake plenum not over the strut...

Kinja'd!!!

The opposite intake plenum now sits well over the strut.

Would you trust a 550 bhp V12 to function properly again if, engine mounts notwithstanding, it has been knocked aside like this?

Consider it Coffee Table Material:

That's a great idea. Am Aston Martin mini bar with reclining leather seats and a engine that dispenses 12 different liquors. It would take some fabricating, but it could be done through taps in each header- i.e., cylinder 4 is rum, cylinder 9 is vodka.

Actually, I'd like 12 way power adjustable, heated and cooled massaging leather bar stools. That's classy.

Is the Chassis damaged? If it isn't I'd try to fix it just for my own enjoyment.

It sits waaay back in the engine bay, so potentially. Definitely a front-mid arrangement.

Front-mid is the best mid.

He could probably regain his 13k from parts alone.

All i can think is...The best way to fix this is definitely to pick up a nice clean Lamborghini and cut the front end/roof off, graft it onto the four door cabin, and do the same with the rear end/drivetrain. Now that would be sweet.
